PHASE lll: THREAD MAGAZINE
THREAD MAGAZINE, an annual magazine to be made available to all 32 NFL teams and distributed to incoming league women for the 2017 season. Subscription offer to THREAD members only.
Cynthia Zordich, co-author of When The Clock Runs Out and NFLPE contributing author is collecting life stories from current and former NFL wives, spouses, mothers, daughters - all women of influence in a NFL player's or coach's life for Volume One of THREAD, an annual magazine that will be distributed exclusively to league women.
“Whether a precautionary tale or success story, I believe we can all learn from our varying NFL experiences and unique perspectives,” explains Zordich, wife of former NFL Safety and current UM DB Coach, Michael Zordich.”
Life stories may be revealed in many forms: a quote, a secret, a lyric, a drawing, a full life chronicle. Stories may be self-written or penned by Zordich. Submissions may also be anonymous. "There are many women out there who have lived through extraordinary circumstances," shares Zordich. "What I have found is that NFL women steer the ship. They are the silent captains who guide the family through active roster/transition/retirement. The NFL circle of life happens in a blink. With so many outstanding former league women out there, sharing our experiences will offer clarity, encouragement and perspective to incoming league women.
A compilation of these submissions along with feature stories, profiles, league information, networking opportunities and relevant league content, will make up Volume One of THREAD, to be made available to all 32 NFL teams and distributed to incoming league women for the 2017 season.
“My intention is to offer up life experiences and a private network so that current and former NFL women can discover that their situation may not be isolated,” says Zordich. “That others may be dealing with the same issues. Finding that you are not alone is paramount when you are thrown into new terrain and are adapting to life as a league woman. I regard former wives as the gatekeepers. We have the wisdom and it is up to us to light the way for the incoming girls as they come in and exit the game.”
Besides revealing a circle of support, Zordich's goal is to provoke all incoming league women to consider personal and professional well-being early on and to encourage them to dive into existing resources already established with their future success in mind. Resources such as: NFL Player Engagement, NFLPA, The Trust, Off The Field Players Wives Association, Sisters In Sports and several ever growing on-line resource groups that have been created to encourage engagement.
“No matter what aspect of the game we are a part of - we are all a part of the same family. We need to assist each other as we navigate through the various facets of the NFL. We need to empower each other with knowledge, support and outreach.”
